Description
Just one look at this detail-rich 3D model of a snowmobile gives you an idea of how challenging the original object could have been to 3D scan. However, Artec Leo, empowered with an improved HD Mode from the newest version of Artec Studio, was ready for this test. This enormous motorized vehicle, introduced by two front-facing skis, was scanned in 4 hours and painstakingly recreated in 3D вАФ you can clearly see the crystal-sharp handlebars with brake-controls, hand-squeeze throttle, and every separate link in the drive chain.
To fully render the black, sleek, and shiny parts of the snowmobile, our scanning specialist moved around this huge object вАФ thankfully, the wireless Leo makes this scanning process similar to shooting a video with its touch-panel screen and on-board processing. With the help of this fast, intuitive 3D scanner, the usually terrifying combination of large surfaces and small peculiarities has been captured impeccably.
The processing in Artec Studio 16 that followed took 8 hours, with projects in the new software version now loading 10x faster вАФ a sizable feat for a 40 GB object. What’s also great is that thanks to a new AS16 feature, all your work is automatically saved as you work, so there’s no need to worry about missing or losing anything, even with larger projects like this one.
