Description
The horse (Equ fer caball or Equus caballus) is a large, herbivorous, ungulate mammal with a single hoof and is one of the species of the family Equidae, which evolved over the last 45-55 million years from a small, multi-toed mammal. In their natural state, horses live in herds, usually under the leadership of a single breeding stallion. They are social and rely on their speed to escape predators. With a good sense of balance, a strong instinct to flee and great spatial visualization skills, they possess an unusual trait in the animal kingdom, being able to go into a light sleep while standing. The females, named mares, give birth after eleven months of gestation to a youngster called a foal, capable of standing up and running shortly after birth.
