Description
The term frog is a vernacular name given to certain amphibians, primarily in the genus Rana. In one of its developmental stages, the larva of the frog is called a tadpole. Frogs are quadrupeds of the order Anurans, as are tree frogs, which are generally greener and more arboreal, toads, which have more granular skin, and xenopes, which are strictly aquatic. All these common terms correspond to outward appearances more than to strictly taxonomic classifications.
